Compared to the bourbon matured malt, the Port Maturation adds a layer of fruity sweetness and yet still retains the distilleries hallmark balance. A must try in my book.

Adelphi Ben Nevis Single Blend 37yo Bourbon

A very enigmatic blend, very mouthfilling and now very hard to find as only 135 bottles were produced. The story is that in 1955 a rather colourful Scots Canadian decided to build a patent still along side the pot stills at Ben Nevis so he could produce a "single blend". And he did and Alex Bruce at Adelphi was able to get hold of some of the last stocks.
Tasting of plums, cherries, hints of sandalwood, sweetly malty rich palate with a bucket load of complexity. This whisky just has to be tasted!

Wow! An absolute stunner and it’s a blend. Seven distilleries in one, including some fabulously biting grain whisky have gone in to produce this is impressively peaty, expressively coastal, weighty malt and brilliantly balanced blended whisky. If the first glass doesn’t get you in, the second surely will, as the peat just surges along.

The last release of the excellent and award winning blend was a 30yo, this time Dough McIvor at Berry's has slightly changed tack. He's taken a richly flavoured 34yo spirit and enlivened by some very bright 16yo spirit. In his words, "The nose is oozing with heather-honey sweetness, ripe oranges and a hint of dark toffee. The palate offers luscious sweetness with wavering citrus and clean oak. The flavours build slowly and gently with a little black pepper eventually showing. The finish is ethereal, long and more-ish." Couldn't agree more!

Mr Super Smooth is back in town!
This is latest offering from Springbank of their lusciously smoothe, highly drinkable, blended whisky that always has a very high malt content. From what I can gather, this edition is made up of the leftovers of the famed 25yo with the addition of 30yo from Girvan!
Deliciously smoothe even delicate, gently oaked, hints of pepper, coconut and candied fruit and the old Girvan certainly adds a charming fragrance to the nose. Only 1680 bottles produced, only a handful made it to Oz and none to America!

Sadly & thankfully out of stock. Yep, you got it right…it’s black…very, very black. Beyond that, all I know is that it’s a great name for a greyhound!! Lots of charry oak and not for the feint hearted. And I hope you like whiksy with your caramel.
Mind you, Franz Scheurer served it well chilled with a very sweet dessert, used it like a caramel topping!

The Mitchell’s Glengyle blend is the first blend to be made up entirely of Campbeltown malts - Kilkerran, from the new Mitchell’s Glengyle Distillery, makes up the bulk of it along with some Springbank and a touch of Longrow to add a nice smoky edge to the final blend. The malt component makes up 40% with the other 60% being grain whisky sourced from out with Campbeltown. It tastes smooth and light with a gentle hint of peat.

Fantastic..one of the best Armagnac's I've seen in years. And why? No caramel has been added. Lots of toasty, resinous oak, very pure and clean spirit, it's big on the fruit, honeyed raisins, chocolate and honeycomb. Great balance and a very long finish. Bravo Gordon.

From one of the finest artisnal Calvados producers in France comes this fabulously spicy and highly complex apple brandy from Normandy. Once again no caramel has been added and somewhat surprisingly this classy spirit is double distilled from pot stills and matured in ex sherry casks. Another fab find from the Alchemist, Gordon Wright.

Yes, it’s a brandy, in fact a Cognac - in all its pure naked glory. Sick of the light weight, caramel dosed commercial version of this spirit? I most certainly am, and when I tried this, it just knocked me over!! It's aromatic, spicy, highly intriguing, the alcohol is racy and it's a touch rustic. But it is so fabulously splendid. And no caramel to dull the senses and at cask strength too!
In thier words, "Nose: Sweet; oily; orange peel; rich fruits; plums.Palate: Parma violets; orange zest; marzipan; fruity; dry sweetness towards the end."
As one tasted loudly stated, "This is the brandy for whisky drinkers".
