Sadly out of stock. The Richly Spiced One was inspired by Robbo’s love of Macca’s Gran Reserva and Exceptional
Single Cask 1, and is a mix of whiskies distilled at Highland Park, Bunnahabhain, Tamdhu and Glenrothes, matured in sherry casks. Full of dry spices, orange zest and dried fruits with a splash of smoke. Robbo says "A real spicy sensory sensation!"

Certainly this is another Diageo distillery that is not in the superstar league, in fact you could almost call it a hidden malt. For Glen Elgin is one of those big Speyside distilleries where most of its working life was devoted to supplying spirit to the blended whisky market.
So it's nice to see an official bottling like this 12yo: a dry combination of ginger, honey, dark chocolate & toffee & the malt is crisp. Great mouthfeel.
Jim Murray, "absolutely murders Cragganmore as Diageo's top dog Speysider." 89 pts 2009 Bible.

One of the best buys around and always underrated by those that don’t know. Initially dry, then the sweetness and nuttiness kicks in, and finally then finish: herbal, clean and fresh. One of the world’s best selling malts we hardly ever see in Oz.

Neighbour to the mighty Springbank: lots of zesty peat works well with its signature oiliness and that big hit of Campbeltown sea air.

The first official bottling from the relatively new owners, Angus Dundee. The spirit is very clean, fruity, quite light but intensive, and this is mainly due to angle of the lyne arm: 15deg ascending!

A classic distillery that has just become part of Billy Walker's BenRiach group and if Billy does to Glendronach what he has done to BenRiach, then we are certainly in for some good things.
Classically, an old fashioned heavyweight that is fully sherry matured.

Can Billy Walker of BenRiach fame rescue and restill some quality and character back into this old war horse? Yes, I think he can. This is the first offering of Glendronach under the new ownership. Gone is the old stinky, sulphurous casks, in comes a starlingly excellent Oloroso matured old fashioned sherry monster. To paraphrase Serge Valantin of Whiskyfun fame (apologies Serge), "Mouth: big, rich, nervous and wonderfully sherried, immediately remind us of some older Macallan 18s (Gran Reservas). Coffee, chocolate, prunes, dates, beef jerky, dried bananas, figs, orange liqueurs… And a very nice rancio in the background. As for spices, we have cloves, cinnamon and just a little star anise". 92pts. Check out his website for an amazing write up.

On top of the belting 15yo Revival comes this brand new bottling of once again, a full on Oloroso matured Speysider. The name refers to the founder of Gelndronach. From the distillery, "Appearance: Bright deep gold with a tawny centre.
Nose: Sweet aromatics of fudge and muscovado sugar. Fruit compote and glacier morello cherries provide added complexity. Palate: Rich dark and seductive. Remarkable flavours of stewed fruits and all-spice marry together with classical aged Oloroso and toasted walnut bread and chocolate orange. Conclusions: Tremendously complex and long".

Now the claim is that this whisky was distilled in 1971, but there is nowhere on the label that states this, except a rotation number of M01871. But it is matured in Oloroso sherry casks for 33 years. One retailer sees it as "quite possibly the best Glendronach ever released". Murray gives it 95pts stating, want to know what sherry should really nose like: invest in a bottle of this". Also gold a Gold Medal at the San Francisco Spirits Competition.
