Sadly out of stock. The 1994 is a single sherry cask bottled in 2004, with some of the best quality sherry wood I have seen in years. This is a boisterous youngster full of dense oak, dried fruit, orange zest, rich malt and oloroso sherry flavours. This is a malt that has density, balance &
flavour and that’s truly magnificent...Just about perfect.

The mega star, full on sherry malt. Original trophy Champion at the Malt Whisky Society's first Australian Whisky Convention, runner up at the second and in 2009...once again the Champion Whisky. From the distillery, " This was distilled in my grandfather’s time, so we have to thank him for the wonderful depth of the 30 Years Old. It is the casks he purchased that have made this so richly indulgent. This truly amazing whisky was named the Best Commercially Available Single Malt in Australia in 2003, and won Gold at the International Spirits Challenge in 2005. At the 2007 Malmo Whisky Fair Glenfarclas 30 Years Old won double Gold, and was named ‘Best Overall Whisky at the Fair’.

This distillery literally came back from the dead...opened 1875, closes 1908, reopen 1931, closes 1936, re-open 1960, mothballed 1986, sold then finally re-opened after refurbishment in 2008. The current distillery manager is non other than Graham Eunson, ex Glenmorangie. So it is remarkable then, that the current owners still have access to stocks left from older distillings, which this 21yo represents.
Sherry matured, tea and boiled fruits and pear flavours dominate. Jim Murray called it, "a malt that simply sings and a fabulous benchmark for the new owners" and gave it 94pts!

The latest edition to the Glengoyne stable and believe it or not, but this new malt is not just a de-tuning of the old 12yo cask Strength. The whole maturing process is a little different from the normal Glengoyne practice, as they have employed more 1st fill ex Bourbon casks while backing off a tad from the Euro oak sherry casks. From the distillery: The nose if loaded with coconut oil, lemon zest, honey and dried malt. On the palate, there's plenty of toffee apple and cinnamon spice flavours and this whole delicious package finishes with hints of sherry and soft oak. Well balanced. Couldn't agree more!

Bingo! I've finally found what I was desperately looking for. A big, sweetly fruited, dark, resinous, fully raisined sherry monster. This malt is so luscious that it is far too easy to drink and it's so fabulously old fashioned too. I fear for this style of 100% Oloroso sherry butt matured single malt is becoming increasingly hard to procure, as very few of us are drinking sherry any more. Bravo Glengoyne! And for 2010, Glengoyne 21 wins Distillery Bottling Of The Year in the Scottish Field Whisky Challenge.

I recently had the chance to reacquaint myself with the entire range of Glenmorangies. This new Original replaces the old 10yo, and I remember at the time that there was some criticism surrounding the change over. But let me allay your fears, this "new" 10yo Original, yes it says 10yo on the back label. This malt is so pure and perfumed with just the right amount of creamy oak. On the palate it's creamy, intense and lingering and that highly complex & fruity spirit that Glenmorangie's high stills are famous for, still shines through. Benchmark stuff!!
