Glenmorangie 18yo Extremely Rare
700ml 43.00%
  Ret
$170.00

The new, whizzed up version of the 18yo. And by whizzed up, I mean, take a look at the package! You can certainly see the French influence here BUT the spirit is oh so very Scottish. Fiftenn years in Ex Bourbon barrels then an additional 3 years in sherry oak. Peach, white cocolate, cocnut, dried fruits, honey and very creamy malt flavours. On the palate it's very long but quite narrow. The overall effect: very pleasing, very elegant. As one pundit says, this is the " Blanc de Blanc" of malt whisky.

Glenmorangie 1955 Artisan Cask
500ml 46.00%
  Ret
$130.00

Glenmorangie's most excellent use of very classy air dried Ozark white oak as a means of maturing their highly aromatic spirit. And it worked a treat.

Glenmorangie Astar
700ml 57.10%
  Ret
$120.00

The new Astar is a real star and is closely aligned to Cellar 13, as both have been matured in what can only best be described as some of the finest white oak ever to come out of the Ozarks and they are all first fill, Glenmorangie designer casks as well. Couple this with Glenmorangie's highly aromatic & estery spirit, the finished product is both mouthfilling and mouthcoating with a velvet like texture.

Glenmorangie Cellar 13

An early rendition of the Artisan Cask, Astar, Traditional range of malts that have matured in air dried Ozark grown white oak.

Glenmorangie Lasanta
700ml 46.00%
  Ret
$88.00

Lastanta, the new model that replaces the old Olroso Sherry finish. An easy going style, plenty of dried fruit, nuts & toffee flavours, some sweet/pulpy fruit notes and a soft, finishes softly with hints of spiced orange and hazelnuts. it's sherried gentleness is quite engaging. Oh, and by the way, I believe Lasanta is actually Gaelic for warmth & passion.

Now in the realms of the collectors market. Funny thing is though, when I tried, I'm sure I could taste grape tannin.

Glenmorangie Nectar Dor
700ml 46.00%
  Ret
$95.00

I've been waiting to try this one for ages, but some how over the last year I've missed out on tasting it. But a visit by Glenmorangie's international Brand Development Manager along with Moet's Australian Sales manager to South Aust changed all that. And I have to say that the wait was well worth it. This is one cracker of a malt and it all gets down to the skillful marriage of Glenmorangie's highly estery spirit with some pretty smart & very tasty European oak barriques that previously had Sauternes in it. This malt has superb mouthfeel, soft & supple with plenty of cirtus and oak spice notes. Bravo!!

Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban
700ml 46.00%
  Ret
$90.00

The Quinta Ruben is the current rendition of the old Glenmorangie Port Finish. But this time, the 6 months top dressing has gone as the ex bourbon matured spirit is now aged for an additional 2 years in used Port pipes. belive me, this makes a difference as the extra maturation promotes more substantial oak flavours than fleeting wine notes. It's fruity and richly scented on the nose but on the palate there is initially some tight intensive flavours that give way toa luscious, fruit sweet middle palate. The finish is crisply dry and there's loads of Glenmorangie's famed spirirt complexity. Nice one!

Glenmorangie Signet
700ml 46.00%
  Ret
$320.00

Signet: I was wondering how long it would take until some clever distiller decided to play with his/hers wash. So once again, those innovators at Glenmorangie have pulled it off, using a highly toasted barley malt or to use the brewers terms, a chocolate malt, sourced from around Tain. The resultant whisky was then matured in a combination of ex bourbon, Oloroso and get this, new oak casks as well! And wait there is more, this spirit is then married to a number of other well aged (up to 35yo) Glenmorangie spirits. And the results: Pungent, perfumy, even afterhsvae, plenty of roasted malt flavours, along with sherry and Artisan cask richness, plenty of fruit cake characters as well.

Glenmorangie Traditional
1000ml 57.20%

POA

Artisan, Astar, Cellar 13 and Traditional are all very much a similarly styled Glenmorangie's that rely on their maturation on some specially selected, air dried, Ozark mountain grown American white oak. very creamy, very rich and all are excellent drams.

This is the piece des resistance when it comes to Glenrothes. Bottled around 2004 and is now classified as a 25yo. Only 54 bottles came into the country out of 200 cases produced. This is what the charm of Glenrothes is all about—superb spirit quality matching seamlessly with very classy oak and that distinctive blood orange flavour. Hints of vanilla sweetness from the oak and a long palate that finishes off dry makes for a joyous dram

For me, this is Glenrothes back to its brilliant self, because there is absolutely no caramel! This pure, intensive spirit with some superb barely influences that adds crunch. But hang on, you’re supposed to be telling them about the size. Check it out, 100ml! Brilliant, three and a bit standard drinks in a dinky size bottle that neatly fits into your hacking jacket pocket. Bravo Glenrothes.

Gooderham & Worts (Canadian)

For the day when the whisky runs out!! This is a small batch whisky blended from hand selected barrels of mature whisky made from rye, malted barley and wheat. The nose is light ethereal, earthy, clean and spirity. Displaying a marked similarity to Cognac, with the addition of dried fruit, cloves, grain and a touch of vanilla. Clean and earthy on the palate, elegant with dried fruit, vanilla fudge and a spicy, tangy middle. Intense, delineated and long.

Hazelburn 12yo Sherry
700ml 46.00%
  Ret
$135.00

Springbank Distiller's latest triple distilled, ex sherry cask matured, unpeated single malt. And I have to say that this is one sensational malt! And I mean that in its truest sense: the nose is subtly expressive, plenty of old, dark furniture notes, hints of dried orange zest, pepper, cardamom with a hint of bitter marmalade. Very supple, very classy with all the senses fully engaged. So bring on the palate. Fabulous oak: plenty of dried fruits, bitter orange that sits well with subtle malt. Initially sweet then the pepper and crisp spirit arrives at the end leaving a very intriguing, but lasting finish. Typical Springbank: lots of angles & crisp intensity as well as being just huge on the palate. Magic stuff.

Hazelburn 8yo
700ml 46.00%

$99.00

From the highly individual and delightfully idiosyncratic Springbank Distillers comes this triple distilled, highly fragrant and dare I say elegant whisky. Very pre-dinner, when the palate needs invigorating and the appetite needs teasing.

Now with Bonus 50ml bottle of HP 18!! When you talk about the world of whisky or even for that matter the bigger world of oak aged spirits, somewhere in the conversation the name Highland Park will always crop up. The HP 12 still remains one of the most mildly mannered but exquisitely tasty single malts on the shelf. The honey sweetness matches up so well with the “bonfire” qualities of the peat. And what is even more remarkable is this malt's balance between its bitter, smokey elements, the sweet fruitiness of the spirit and the spiciness of the oak. Murray rates it at 91pts and comments, "Disappointing HP? Not a bit of it!! Because the complexity still keeps you mesmerised."

Some say that this is best malt in the world, others say that it is the only malt worth drinking in the world and some say that there are certainly some whisky whackers out there. Me, I'm a little bit cautious when it comes to this malt - in the past I've found it way too variable, from being outstandingly good to being downright faulty. Murray currently rates it at 95.5pts.
