This is a relatively new release from this vastly underrated distillery. It is surprisingly light and fruity with hints of honey, vanilla and smoke, the finish is dry & very smoothe.

Yep, that's right...after this offering there is no more official releases. The distillery is closed, which is more the pity as this triple is brilliant. Full of honey, herbs and spice and a texture to die for. Who said Lowland malts were light and boring?

Another big wow! for me. An official Diageo bottling of the famed and highly desirable & classic triple distilled Rosebank. Only 4,710 bottles were released of this official 25yo. And it's been fully matured in American oak. As the official tasting notes state, "Excellent texture and oilier than you'd expect from such a lush nose. Sweet at first, the apple flavours emerge strongly; soon developing an intense mixed spice note. Spiced tea loaf. Some cedar dryness. Mouth-drying, with a whiff of sooty smoke, and autumn fruits."
Really...this is a must try!!

A big favourite of most of most TOWC customers. Big on the peat, seaside tang, sweet malty mid palate, dry mouthwatering finish. Great stuff Pernod Ricard. Sadly the 14yo has now been discontinued.

This is the new replacement for the old and venerable 14yo and apologies for the price hike...it's not my fault. I suspect the distillery has finally woken up the fact that their malts can be truly briliant and need not be undervalued! So what's it like? The distillery reckons, "sweet and silky-smooth heather-honey taste, perfectly balanced with delicate spice. A smooth and full-bodied single malt".

This is latest version of this marvelous & dare I use the term, "vatted", 8 yo malt. But as the owners of Sheep Dip, Spencerfield Spirit Company says, "great whisky does not have to be the product of one distillery nor should
its age be a measure of quality".

Singleton of Dufftown 12yo

This is the new offering from Diageo and I have to say, it's one of the cleanest and more drinkable Dufftown's I've ever seen. The official tasting notes state, "Sweetness and crunchy nuts impress at first, then there's a smooth, fruity Speyside richness to enjoy."
Pity they have muddied the waters by using the old Singleton name...especially when a customer confuses it with the new Glen Ord. Good one, Diageo marketing department.

Springbank 10yo

From the highly individual and delightfully idiosyncratic Springbank Distillers comes their flagship 2.8 distilled, lightly peated whisky 12-15ppm, Springbank. The basic 10yo is a bright, ex bourbon cask matured whisky with noticeable seaside & citrus fruit characters, along with a degree of complexity with balance, malt, oak, nutmeg & cinnamon & a salty tingle on the end.

Springbank 10yo 100 Proof

Now I call Springbank idiosyncratic, because every time their is a new shipment, the style just seem to change ever so slightly. The current 10yo 100 Proof is sweetly oaked (all ex bourbon), has crunchy barley, there's a hint of peat with a drying slightly bitey finish.

The 2009 release of the famous Wood Finishes range from Springbank. And this is a very classy edition to this already venerable range. 11 years in Madeira casks accounts sweetness on the nose, with notes of butter shortbread, demerara sugar, and chocolate orange. Look a little deeper and the astounding complexity of the flavours from the Madeira casks become apparent. On the palate there's plenty of brown sugar, hot chocolate, a hint of mint and butter and the gentlest hint of peat spice. Nice one!

This is the new 12yo Cask Strength that now replaces the old and venerable 10yo 100 Proof. Matured in 60% fresh sherry hogsheads and 40% refill sherry butts, this dram is soft and silky in nature, completely in balance even at 54% and showing some intense citrus flavours with a sweetly soft & smokey finish.

Springbank 12yo Claret Wood

The latest release and possibly the last in Springbank's Wood Finish range, as Whiksy Notes have said : "This is a Springbank limited release, distilled in May of 1997. It was matured in refill bourbon barrels, then finished in fresh claret (Bordeaux) casks for 3 years and then another 2 years in re-charred casks (to smooth out the wine influence)."
This is a very tasty, in fact a very bright Springer without too much direct wine influence. The nose is aromatic while the distinct taste of dark cherries, Springbank's saltiness and a hint of gritty wood tannins make for a mighty fine dram.
Here's what Ryan Marshman said, "Find one at any cost, then consume somewhere comfortable and dark, whilst listening to some Brian Jonestown Massacre. Bliss. Score: 96"

The 15yo shows a change in tack for Springbank, as this has a big dose of sherry oak going through still relatively dry and intensive, but mid palate the dark chocolate and rich toffee notes kick in. “Like a storm gathering off the Kintyre coast. Dark & ominous…”

The superstar finally arrives. We've been hanging out for this for ages. Medium to full bodied style, matured in both ex sherry (80%) and ex bourbon casks. Only 7800 bottles produced and now totally sold in the UK! This malt is all about precision & refinement...nothing is out of place: from the restrained nose of fruit cake with marzipan and a hint of pine smoke to the very long, lightly peated, crisply malty & fruity palate & dry smokey finish, this malt hums. And keeps on humming for quite some time.
Tasting notes from the distillery as well:
Nose: Full of authority. Rich and creamy at first, the nose develops to reveal vanilla, ripe fruits and marzipan before hints of sherbet, almonds and strawberries tempt you onwards to the first mouthful.
Palate: A classic full-bodied dram. Thick and oily in texture with an extremely fruity and mellow taste which gives way to a sweet liquorice and aniseed flavour as it opens up. Hints of liquorice and aniseed.
Finish: Sweet and chocolaty with some coconut, the finish is long and consistent with a pleasant smokey tingle.
