SINGLE MALT WHISKY
Springbank 1997 Vintage Batch 1
700ml 55.20%
  Ret
$136.00

This is brilliant, dry ginergery Springbank fully matured in re-charred dry Oloroso sherry barrels. This malt is so finely tuned that it could be an F1 racer. Bravo.

Springbank 1997 Vintage Batch 2
700ml 54.90%
  Ret
$113.00

Now you would think that Batch 2 of the 1997 Vintage release would be similar to Batch 1, only released 12 months or so ago. We're talking about Springbank here, and so it ain't. This is so incredibly sweet and rich and very sherried. Quite remarkable, and like Batch 1 highly enjoyable.

Springbank 1998 PSI Small Cask
700ml 53.30%
  Ret
$159.00

I and a number of colleagues were confronted late last year by a dozen small bottles of Springbank, all were blind with hardly any information as to what we were tasting. One and only one stood out. And we were all agreed, this malt is a blinder! Meet Shane Kalloglian's private bottling but official bottling of a unique Springbank whisky. Only 612 bottles made and all of it consigned to Australia! Matured in small (50 to 80lt) port & sherry casks, this whisky has an enormous amount of depth, weight, pungency & flavour that belies its 11yo age. Bravo Mr Shane...what a whisky!! (Pic indicative only)

Springbank 2001 Vintage Batch 1
700ml 55.30%
  Ret
$113.00

Just in! Latest release in the Springbank Vintages lineup and this time, this very tasty dram has been fully matured for 8 years in small oak casks, maybe this is an extension of last years PSI bottling? The nose is soft and fruity, hints of black berry & citrus fruit flavours wrapped up in butterscotch flavoured oak. But just smelling it gives no indication of what is to follow on the palate. Initially there is a big burst of flavour that just keeps on rolling down the palate. It starts angular, tight, zest and salty then the middle of your mouth is flooded with honey, cream and vanilla flavours. And it's only at then end do you taste the drying peat. What an experience...and it's only 8 years of age.

Springbank 9yo Marsala Wood
700ml 58.00%
  Ret
$121.00

Part of the occasional Wood Finish Range comes this top dressed Marsala offering (not Masala as I first reported, the casks are from Italy you idiot not India!), very warm and very kitchen spicy and also very dry.

Springbank CV
700ml 46.00%
  Ret
$89.00

The latest in the new CV range has finally arrived with one retailer claiming that it's a vatting of 8 to 30yo whiskies. After the huge success of the Longrow CV (Liquid Gold from Murray) comes the Springbank version. Once again, I'll let whisky expert blogger Ryan Marshman describe, "he palate is soft and silky, delivering subdued smoked malty characteristics. Flavours of spice and toast initially before a burst of fresh citrus resuscitates the otherwise uninteresting palate. Perfect balance. Clean finish. Reasonable length, before a sweet, softly smoked aftertaste. Score: 87." For me, I would never describe a Springer as uninteresting!

Springbank CV Campbeltown Malts Tasting Pack 3 x
200ml 46.00%
  Ret
$99.00

Brand spanking new! Three new releases from Springbank are presented in a smick 3 x 200ml gift pack. All the malts are brand new and are the first showing on the new Springbank CV range. So what are they like? The Hazy CV is all about grassy liveliness, fresh & refreshing. The Longrow CV is as we well know a flavoursome, rich, creamy and peaty malt while the Springbank CV is a full on sherry style with plenty of meaty, soy sauce flavours. And just to remind you: Hazelburn is triple distilled, not peat, Longrow is double distilled with a big dose of peat and Springbank is 2.8 times distilled with a modicum of peat.

Strathisla 12yo
700ml 43.00%

POA

The elegant dram, more dry sherry in style than the thick and dense sweet Oloroso style of malt. Dave Broom calls it charming, while Jackson thanks the almighty for Strathisla’s boldness and individuality in a world of blandness and then there’s Jim Murray, “Today the heavy-weighted, fullbodied malt engages the tastebuds from first to last with a complexity and richness of genuine class.”

Stronachie 12 yo
700ml 43.00%

Somewhat of a mystery bottling, as it was produced from a working distillery and badged as Stronachie, a bit like what the American’s do with bourbon. The idea is try and replicate a malt that was last distilled in 1928, a la The Macallan , with the flavour was based on three surviving bottles. The producers then went about tasting current Speyside offerings and finally came up with a match. Bingo! But who is the mysterious distillery? I don’t know, van you help? Anyway, a firm, slightly smokey style with lots of nutty malt with a dash of toffee sweetness while finishing clean and dry.

Talisker 10yo

Mmmmm..love that pungent scents of the sea, the big whiff of white pepper, the salty tang at the back and that classic mouthwatering finish. Love it!

But tying to get some more. A vatting of a number of young and older (over 20yo) Tali's to help celebrate 175th birthday. very maritime, very spicy.

How can you improve on perfection? Well I think the chaps at Talisker have with this 18yo...an absolute masterpiece of explosive flavours married to an amazingly complex palate. And the oak handling is just sublime.

I've been hanging out for this one for quite some time (you know I've got a big soft spot for most Tali's). This one which was bottled in 2004, is a big hearted 25yo, plenty of explosive white pepper spiciness but beautifully balanced with some soothing shortbread flavours, a degree of saltines and a texture that is thick & syrupy. brilliant!

Talisker 57" North
700ml 57.00%

A no age cak strength version of the ever popular and always reliable 10yo. As you could imagine it's powerful, intensive, even biting with a big dose of smoke, ash, sea spray & citrus notes. The added alcohol adds a really nice touch of freshness to this remarkable malt.

Tamdhu 18yo
700ml 43.00%

Sadly out of stock. A bit of a sleeper in the last shipment and what fantastic value for an 18. The Tamdhu 18yo displays a rich and fruity nose full of floral and spice notes along with a pleasing hint of peat. While the palate is medium to full-bodied, has good length and is full of gently sweet citrus, marshmallow and vanilla oak flavours and finishes subtly dry. Absolutely no aggression here at all.

Tamdhu 25yo
700ml 43.00%

Sadly out of stock. With the Tamdhu 25yo, the extra years add more depth and weight to the palate and especially on the nose as the oak starts to make a statement. There’s an intriguing hint of lavender while the palate takes up the citrus and vanilla notes of the 18 and intensifies them. Blood orange flavours dominate the palate while a just perceptible whiff of smoke on the end leaves the finish relatively crisp and dry.
