Can Canadian’s be subtle? And where will this fetish for port finish end? Matured initially for 10 years in American oak, the whisky is then decanted into ex-Coburn’s port pipes. Dry, rich and honeyed aromas spring from the glass. Heady with sweet vanilla fruit, subtle hints of port wood, fruitcake, marzipan and a rounded, spicy/peppery character. The palate is smooth, luxurious, very rich and very spicy. A lovely complex middle palate laced with rich vanilla fruits and hints of dried fruit. Long subtle smooth fruitcake finish.

According to the Spirits Review: "Corn, oak, vanilla and some fresh ginger notes with some sweetness to it. Warming finish with fat oaky notes,balanced by vanilla and sweetness of the corn".

A more traditional bourbon mash bill for this richly flavoured whiskey: Corn, wheat, rye & malted barley. It tastes rich, very youthful but there's plenty of creamy vanilla oak. There's pepper from the rye, malt sweetness from the barley and creaminess from the wheat with a good amount of young spirit bite as well.

The calmer version of the Hudson Mahattan Rye, still has plenty of spice and grassy attack but there is also a hint of smoke as well. Very much a "sippin" whiskey...but it would make a very ace Sazerac.
