Bruichladdich Port Charlotte 2007 CC:01 French Oak Cask
700ml 57.80%
  Ret
$445.00

Port Charlotte is Bruichladdich's over heavily peat spirit (40ppm), not quite as bonkers as the Octomore, but still powerfully smoky. This is a Travel Retail exclusive form 2016 which was been fully mature in French oak ex-cognac casks. Hence, CC:01 - Charlotte Cognac Release 1. From Peated Perfection, "An absolutely beautiful dram! Very nearly gave it a 4.5 score actually. Very complex and engaging, particularly considering the youth, and there's still plenty of peat to be found, and plenty of 'funk' as well."

Bruichladdich Port Charlotte PC7 Sin An Doigh Ileach
700ml 61.00%
  Ret
$670.00

This is Bruichladdich's heavily (40ppm) peated range and PC7 is curiously its third release. Distilled 2001, bottled 2008 with the 7 referring to its age. From John Hansell, "Aged in a combination of sherry and bourbon oak. Bold and fresh, bursting with testosterone. Notes of damp kiln smoke, tar, wet sheep, roasted chestnuts, and pine forest bedding, along with more subtle pear, expresso, anise, and brine. Sweet notes of vanilla, fig cake and maple syrup serve up balance and complexity. Appetizing brine and tar finish." Sin an Doigh Ileach, is by the way, Gaelic for The Islay Way,

Cadenhead Small Batch Bunnahabhain 1989 28yo
700ml 43.80%
  Ret
$359.00

For all the whisky enthusiasts out there...this is distillate comes from the pre-Edrington days! For the rest of us, this is the old school, fruity Bunny. How rare is that!! Official notes read, "Nose: Pineapple, papaya, mango. Really fruity. Flavour: Grapefruit, Lime cordial with a feint hint of flint. Finish: Macademia nuts, banana bread. Lightly smoked wood chips in the background." And get this, an incredible 469 bottles were released.

Cadenhead Small Batch Laphroaig 1998 20yo
700ml 54.30%
  Ret
$439.00

A very special 2018 release from Wm Cadenhead: a well aged Islay dram from the world's favourite smoky malt, Laphroaig. All bourbon cask matured, only 474 bottles released and tasting of, "Meaty initially then black cherry fruitiness. Finishing with oysters and spiced ham while smoke gradually builds through."

Douglas Laing Big Peat Islay Blended Malt Whisky 40ppm
700ml 46.00%
  Ret
$140.00

A blended whisky that is surprisingly made up from single malts from Coal Ila, Bowmore, Ardbeg and Port Ellen! Heavy smoke and cut grass as one pundit put it. And for Christmas 2018 - every bottle gets a free Neat Whisky glass!!

Kilchoman 2009 5yo Loch Gorm Oloroso Sherry Cask
700ml 46.00%
  Ret
$180.00

Another early release of the full sherry matured Kichoman. Acording to one major retailer, "Crumbly biscuits and vanilla, an inviting pair to open up a palate. This is swiftly followed by smoky peat once again, which stays with you through the Sherry soaked berries until the finish."

Kilchoman 2011 5yo Sauternes Cask
700ml 50.00%
  Ret
$340.00

Kilchoman are certainly building a fine reputation for intriguing, individual and rather tasty malts. And this 2016 bottling certainly caught my attention. As this dram has been fully matured in Sauternes quarter casks. Spicy oak and sweet wine, what a combo! Pic to follow shortly.

Kilchoman 2012 5yo Red Wine Cask
700ml 50.00%
  Ret
$340.00

Another full-term maturation project from Mr Wills. This time Portuguese red table wine from the Douro Valley, is the type of cask on offer. But I can't determine if it is American or Euro oak? Help please! From The Single Malt Alliance, "It’s earthy, it’s fruity, it’s tannic, it’s malty. It’s all of the things a great wine-matured, peated whisky should have but its delivered in a way I have never before experienced."

Kilchoman Spring 2010 Release
700ml 46.00%
  Ret
$175.00

I wrote this some time ago, "Small, artsinal, farm based distillery turning out 100,000lts of spirit annually from barley grown on the farm. This was Kilchomas third release since opening. Oily and very smokey, mainly matured in bourbon oak." Today in 2018 they are now aiming to produce over 450,000 litres of alc a year! Boy, how they have grown up!

Kilchoman Spring 2011 Release
700ml 46.00%
  Ret
$175.00

Small, artsinal, farm based distillery turning out 100,000lts of spirit annually from barley grown on the farm. This was Kilchomas fourth release since opening and was a mix of bourbon and sherry oak. In 2018, they have just about quadrupled their output.

Kilchoman Summer 3yo 2010 Release
700ml 46.00%
  Ret
$175.00

A very early release and matured in ex bourbon barrels courtesy of Buffalo Trace. Notes from a major retailer, "The palate is soft and creamy from the get go building with a mildly tingly burst of sweet spice. Off dry flavours of malt are delivered in a slightly oily, soft, peaty blanket. Delicate spices persist with a hint of liquorice returning into the very lengthy aftertaste. Youthful, delicious whisky. " Not bad for such a young whisky.

Lagavulin 1996 12yo Distillers Edition
700ml 43.00%
  Ret
$230.00

This is the 2012 release of this richly sherried (PX sherry that is) and peaty dram. Christmas cake, rum, chocolate and a bonfire. And with such splendid balance too.

Lagavulin 1999 15yo Distillers Edition
700ml 43.00%
  Ret
$210.00

It's always a joy to see the famed and richly flavoured Lagavulin finished in PX sherry oak. Bottled in 2015, so it's either a 15 or 16yo, From WhiskySaga, "Rich in sweetness at first, then it sort of switches gears and I find dry ashes and pepper. Amazingly it switches again and theres notes of fruit juices citrus, melon and pineapple."

Laphroaig 25yo
700ml 40.00%
  Ret
$750.00

An older, original bottling of the majesty that is Laphroaig: ethereal, subtle, wafts of smoke, beach bonfires, brine & iodine and very gently rich. Pic indicative only.

Laphroaig An Cuan Mor European Oak Finish
700ml 48.00%
  Ret
$150.00

A travel Retail exclusive, but some seems to have slipped into Australia. One retailer has rumoured that is an 18yo sherry oak. The other clasim is that the Euro oak is new oak. Really, at this price?! Murray gave it 95pts in 2016 while the official notes read, "Nose of figs, lavender and black pepper developing into natural honey. Peppery palate, liquorice root with a slight saltiness. Moves to gentle oak tannins, orange peel and a dry earthiness. Finish of creamy walnuts enveloped by Laphroaig peatiness. ."

Laphroaig The 1815 Legacy
700ml 48.00%
  Ret
$200.00

First released in 2017 as a Travel Retail exclusive, ie you could only buy it at airports, this homage to Laphroaig's past distillery managers, is not only full throttle Laphroaig but also boast heavily charred American oak barrels along with new European oak hogsheads. The use of the latter being a first for this distillery. From blogger Malt & Oak, "Peat, acetone, bitter citrus rind, sweet wood spices you’d typically get in sherry casks, honey, and a hint of ash."

Cadenhead Single Cask Highland Park 1989 29yo
700ml 40.60%
  Ret
$799.00

A single cask oh Highland Park. And a 29yo at that. What a wonder! 198 bottles only, all bourbon oak matured, fruity and lightly smoky. Sounds like classic HP to me. According to Cadenheads the taste is of, "Tropical fruits, gooseberries and white grapes. While finishing with smoke, lemon zest and orchard fruits."

Cadenhead Single Cask Highland Park 1996 20yo
700ml 50.60%
  Ret
$299.00

A somewhat curious HP as they notes don't really mention the classic peat/honey combo that HP used to bang on about. I've seen modern versions, very similar to this one. Distilled 1996, bottled 2016, ex Bourbon cask, out-turn: 258 bottles. From Mr Cadenhead, Mark Watt, "A little lemon, vanilla, lots of cream, apple crumble, icing sugar and pear tart...a very coastal finish."

Cadenhead Small Batch Arran 1997 19yo
700ml 52.40%
  Ret
$189.00

Aaah, an aged Arran that was laid down in the very days of what was a very new distillery. Distilled in 1997, bottled in 2016, matured in 1 x ex Boubon cask and 1 x sherry cask. Out-tun: 486 bottles. I love the official notes, "Fruit pudding, vanilla, plum jam and rich creamy chocolate, cofffee liqueur." Not your standard tasting note for an Arran malt.

Cadenhead Small Batch Highland Park 1990 25yo
700ml 50.60%
  Ret
$499.00

This is a vatting of two bourbon hogsheads and as Serge Valentin declares, "Sharp, waxy, citrusy, herbal, very much focused, well-chiselled, slightly smoky And theres this bitterness that keeps it a little intellectual. 91pts " noting that he can't understand why the distillery got rid of these casks.
