ISLAY
Douglas Laing Provenance Caol Ila 2011 6yo
700ml 46.00%
  Ret
$170.00

Classic Caol Ila: all bourbon oak with that unique sooty, coal dust peat. Just so distinctive . Official notes read, "Massively sweet with later coal dust, with a hint of salt." American oak, 458 bottles released.

Firkin Whisky Co Firkin Islay Caol Ila 2012 7yo Marsala Cask
700ml 48.90%
  Ret
$170.00

Kapow!!! Smoke!! Call the Firkin fire brigade! A big waft of peat and smoke. You only need to dig a bitfor the malt and creamy oak which holds it all topgether. This dram has everything: Big burning embers, smoky bonfires and a tad of oak with peppery, lively spirit. So chewy and smoky and it just lingers. Another Firking original Islay. Marsala cask matured, 160 bottles released.

Morrison & MacKay The Big Strand Peated Islay Single Malt
700ml 46.00%
  Ret
$120.00

The Big Strand: a really splendid piece of beach frontage next to one of the most admirable distilleries on Islay: Caol Ila.. Bright, young, massively peaty and very cheery. This comes from the stable of Morrison and MacKay.

Speciality Drinks Port Askaig 100 Deg Proof 2 Glencairn Glass Gift Pack
700ml 57.10%
  Ret
$220.00

The famed smoky Port Askaig, which I suspect is Caol Ila, comes from that prominent whisky trader, Mr Sukhinder Singh of The Whisky Exchange fame. And best of all, not only is it at cask strength but it comes gift boxed with 2 x Glencairn glasses. From RianC on Connsr.com, "This, in my humble opinion, is Caol Ila. That leathery, lemon note with the sooty, mineralic peat nails it down for me - but I could well be wrong . . . Either way, it's a very enjoyable whisky and I find that even for a bit of a peaty bruiser it lends itself to a warm day such as this due to the very lemon forward nature of the dram. The finish is a belter (reminiscent of Ardbeg 10, but not quite!) and given what some young CIs go for it's excellent vfm. It needed a bit of time to open up as it was rather on the nippy side at first and definitely benefits from a good helping of water. A peater for all seasons . . . hooray!".

BLEND
Johnnie Walker Black Label 12yo
700ml 40.00%
  Ret
$70.00

A recent of the peated version of Johnnie Walker. I suspect the peat comes from Caol Ila, Boxed or tin.

GIN
Cadenhead Old Raj Caol Ila Whisky Cask Matured Gin
700ml 55.00%
  Ret
$109.00

Well we have ahd rums before that were aged in Islay casks and we have even had a number of malts aged in rum casks. But this is a first for me: Cadenheads famed Old_Raj matured in a 1991 Caol Ila hogshead for 299 days. Wow! The official notes read, "The result is a creamy gin with faint smoke in the background." And just for your information the botanicals in this gin are: Juniper, licourice, angelica root, orris, cinnamon, casia quills and nutmeg. Very limited, only 342 bottles released.
