Tin Shed Distilling Iniquity 2yo Batch 006 American Oak Port & Sherry Cask
700ml 46.00%
  Ret
$230.00

Finally and at long last Ian & Vic's newish venture, Tin Shed Distillery's Iniquity hits the TOWC website. This is Batch 006 and what a doozy it is. My notes to follow, but look out for the mallee root smoke that was used in the malting process. Talk about adding intrigue. In the meantime, the distillery reckons, "Sweet peat and peanuts, much smokier than the nose; charry ashes, smoked mint toffee; gets much smokier in the palate, sweet and leathery, nutty; smoked apricot jam." PIc indicative only.

Tin Shed Distilling Iniquity 3yo Batch 005 Peated American Oak Sherry Cask
700ml 46.00%
  Ret
$230.00

From Ian & Vic, "The malt was smoked using peat from the Parawa area south of Adelaide and classic South Australian mallee wood. This whisky is a winter warmer, but it is definitely at its best after being warmed in the hand. Don't make the mistake of drinking it cold or on ice."

Tin Shed Distilling Iniquity Batch 010 American Oak Port Cask
200ml 46.00%
  Ret
$70.00

Released in Feb 2018, Batch 10 is quite a departure from the norm for me, as it is so damn quaffable. Every part of the whisky puzzle is in place and in harmony. And for this batch, honey with a hint of cinnamon spice, creamy malt, soft oak and long and lasting palate come up trumps for me. Ian and Vic su, it up perfectly: "Disgracefully easy drinking". A big Ace from me! And look!! It's now in a 200ml bottle.

The name says it all! In Cadenhead's words, "A glorious balance of sweetness and spice, honeycomb and fruit loaf. This dram is so elegant it's a perfect dram from the seasoned drinker to the beginner," From Dave Broom, "Thick and palate-hugging, with just enough drying oak on the sides. It does need water though, which smooths things out considerably, allowing fudge and condensed milk (and sealing wax) to come through. 7.8pts."

Finish: Cream soda, light toffee and cola sweets." And from Benswhisky, "Beautifully creamy, really rich and full bodied, most unexpected. This has the poise of a much older vatted grain, reminds me of a Compass Box special edition Hedonism. There's a wonderful creamy fruit, like a blackcurrant fool in here. Delicious. A+".

Cadenhead Small Batch Strathclyde 1989 29yo Grain
700ml 55.70%
  Ret
$269.00

Strathclyde is a massive grain distillery owned by Pernod Ricard, located in that "quaint" Glasgow suburb of the Gorbals. This plant produces 40 million litres of spirit at 94.5% alc, every year!! And most of this manly wheat based spirit goes into blending. But even grain distillers like to pop some aside for some advanced maturing. And occasionally it does get bottled, especially by the likes of Wm Cadenhead. Aged grain spirits are exotic as they are complex and full of unusual flavours to those that are not familiar with these types of spirits. All American oak matured, only 330 bottles released an according to Cadenheads, "Very chewey. Cinnamon toast and hints of lime. The finish has hints of paprika, peppermint and dark chocolate."

Cadenhead Creations 175th 18yo Light Creamy Vanilla Blend
700ml 44.60%
  Ret
$149.00

This is Mark Watt and his team at Wm Cadenhead at their most eccentric and artistic best: blending up a storm with some pretty classy building blocks of both single malt and grain whiskies. This is new for 2017 but continues the Light Creamy Vanilla blend theme started a couple of years ago/ According to Watt, "Satsuma (ie mandarine) peel, milk chocolate, icing sugar and strawberries." Perfect for a summer's afternoon!
