Ardbeg 1999 13yo Galileo
700ml 49.00%
  Ret
$850.00

From Possible Failure...Comes a brilliant new Ardbeg star! Enough of the Sicilian-ness, this latest offering from Lumsden's skunk works proves to be a most intriguing and dare I say daring experiment that almost went wrong. Lumsden team's use of Sicilian Marsala casks didn't turn out as expected, in his words, "too syrupy and bit too treacly." So a dose of classic Ardbeg was called for. From the well known blogger Billy, "Nose: Soft, sweet peat, sweet spirity notes, tarred ropes, coal dust, barbequed pineapple ( la St Heston of Bray), a touch of dirty sump oil, pine needles, freshly smashed-open coconut, dry breadcrumbs and crushed seashells. Palate: The first thing I noticed was that it wasnt as sweet as the nose might have suggested, at least not in an upfront syrupy way. Instead it had unsweetened tropical fruit and sharp edged Fruit Salad chews, filled out with rich fruitcake sweetness, although this is Ardbeg so it was more a smoked fruitcake hit, along with cold coal stoves, dark wood, a hint of leaf mulch and some sea spray. Finish: On the swallow there was a burst of tarry phenols, which faded to leave lingering damp wood and leaves." And from Gavin D Smith's Whisky Pages - Whisky Of The Year (no age) 2012!

Ardbeg Corryvreckan1st Release
700ml 57.10%

$340.00

If you've missed the advertising on this new Ardbeg, then I suggest you hunt it out. Great stuff. So, another new Ardbeg, once again very limited but I do hear that it is to replace the Beist! So I wonder what's next? It comes from Ardbeg's experiments in the late 1990's and suprisngly is matured or part matured in French oak along with the usual ex Bousbon oak. Belived to be a marriage of Ardbeg's 10yo and Uigeadail.. From John Hansell, Malt Advocate, "Powerful, muscular, well-textured, and invigorating. Even within the realm of Ardbeg, this one stands out. The more aggressive notes of coal tar, damp kiln, anise and smoked seaweed are supported by an array of fruit."

The final in the lead up to Ardbeg's release later this year of their very owned distilled 10yo. Very, very impressive not only for its massive peat attack but also for its impressive mouthfeel and depth & complexity of flavour. Bottled at cask strength.

Bushmills 1975 Millennium Private Cask Single Malt Irish Whiskey
700ml 43.00%
  Ret
$750.00

RARE Distilled in 1975 for the 2000 Millennium celebrations. Originally designed as a single cask offering to some very special clients. This example comes from cask 363 for one Laurence Moffett. All American oak matured, approx 24 years old and said to taste like rich and creamy.

Cadenhead Single Cask Dufftown 1978 37yo
700ml 47.30%
  Ret
$599.00

A big Diageo distillery that has recently undergone a bit of a renaissance with a number of official releases under the Singleton Of Dufftown label. But what we have here is the complete opposite to the new releases. As this dram was one of the last to use the old Dufftown floor malting, which closed in 1968 and it is so very old. Only 196 bottles released. As one retailer put it, "more vanilla and caramel but not overly sweet and edging towards a spicy nutmeg note."

Cadenhead Single Cask Glen Mhor 1982 34yo
700ml 50.30%
  Ret
$699.00

RARE Closed distillery. Another classic that has now long departed. Distilled in 1982, a year before it was closed and bottled in 2016 from an ex Bourbon cask. Out-tun was 126 bottles! Official notes read, "Biscuity notes, apple crumble, pears, old leather, woodiness, brambles and sweet jam."

Cadenhead Single Cask Mannochmore 1977 37yo
700ml 49.40%
  Ret
$669.00

Can't tell you the last time I tried a dram from this distillery? This is a big, new (1977) Diageo distillery that sits right next door to Glenlossie. Officially, only the Flaura & Fauna 12yo has ever been released on a regular basis. So a release of such an aged whisky from almost the very beginnings of the distillery is a big treat. In their words, "Honey, quite syrupy and lemony." 210 bottles bottled.

Cadenhead Single Cask Royal Brackla 1976 38yo
700ml 52.90%
  Ret
$599.00

Along with Aultmore and Craigallachie, Bacardi also own Royal Brackla. This rare indie bottling dates back to a bygone era, when all of Brackla's output went into Dewars blend. Cadenhead notes, "Soft notes of cured meats with watermelon, golden syrup, peaches and vanilla ice cream. Palate: Old school fruity whisky with a faint trace of peat. Lots of tropical fruits with smoked almonds. Finish: A soft gentle finish. Mainly syrupy fruit notes with soft dry smoke."

Cadenhead Small Batch Glen Keith 1973 42yo
700ml 45.80%
  Ret
$749.00

Wowsers! How old can a whisky get? A relatively new distillery, founded 1957, closed in 1999 and reopened in 2013! In their words as I will probably never get to try it, Herbal on the nose, more jammy fruity notes on the taste with growing spices of cloves and cinnamon. Dried bananas and lime pickle on the finish. Only 180 bottles released.

Cadenhead Small Batch Glenlivet (Minmore) 1973 42yo
700ml 40.20%
  Ret
$749.00

Imagine if this oldster was an official bottling? I suspect there would be a few extra noughts after our price! Why Minmore? It's place George Smith moved his famous distillery to in 1858 due to high demand. Getting hold of a pre- Minmore Glenlivet? Well that would be a treat. In their words, "Juicy fruits, delicate, hints of sauvignon blanc and lots of syrupy fruits." Only 630 bottles released.

Douglas Laing XOP Port Ellen1982 33yo
700ml 55.60%

$3400.00

A Port Ellen. My first for 2018. Even with the announcement of the new distillery. These older bottlings are still attracting enthusiastic attention by collectors and imbibers alike. And the style? Soft and gentle does it.

Glen Albyn 10yo Castle Box Old Bottling
750ml 43.00%
  Ret
$800.00

RARE And why is it rare? Because it is an official bottling possibly dating from the late 1970's. I remember Glen Alby's being quite oily. Actual pic shown.

Glen Albyn 1975 26yo Rare Malts Selection
700ml 54.80%
  Ret
$950.00

RARE From the famous Rare Malts selection that was released in Australia in the mid 1990's. Glen Albyn was closed as part of the Whisky Loch closures by United Distillers in the early to mid 1980's. From Malt Review in 2011, "that subtle approach moves into the palate with more of those apples and restrained nutmeg and cinnamon spicing. The vanilla takes a backward step and milk chocolate comes forth with some crystallised ginger, rich tea biscuits and cask char. The joy are the peaches and all I can summarise is a smoked frangipane." Actual pic shown.

Glen Flagler 5yo 100% Pot Still All Malt Half Gallon Decanter 2000ml

$2500.00

RARE Founded 1964. Closed 1985. Demolished 1988. This truly rare 5yo Lowlander was produced in the 1970's. And take a look at the size! I suspect this large bottle was produced for the American market. And the taste? I have no idea. Actual pic shown.

700ml 54.80%
  Ret
$420.00

The 2016 release of the famed Glendronach single casks is always a welcome treat. For this year we have a quite young 13yo Oloroso PX sherry dram in with this year's releases. 641 bottles were released worldwide. Official notes state, "Toasted oak spices lead to a beautiful depth of dark raisins and stewed orchard fruits, laced with gentle vanilla, orange zest and candied ginger. "
